The
Wireless Wonder- The Wave of the Future
The
fixed wireless broadband market is estimated to explode. A
recent study by the Strategis Group indicates that global
service revenues from fixed wireless broadband systems are
projected to reach $16.3 billion by 2004 a compound
annual growth rate of a staggering 140 percent.
The
key to making these wireless markets a reality will rest in
the ability to overcome limitations of current fixed wireless
technology to effectively compete in the mass market with
broadband DSL and cable.
Scalability
and cellular architecture will be a primary focus of improvement
along with newly designed customer premise equipment (CPE)
allowing more effective monitoring and control functionality
for the wireless provider in order to increase bandwidth efficiency
and utilization. Currently too many service providers have
inefficient networks allowing for too much unused bandwidth.
An efficient broadband network would only compound this problem
and accentuate the inefficiencies thus reducing profitability.
Unisyn is committed to integrating new generation fixed wireless
technology with new generation software management functionality.
The two must go hand in hand to reach the final goal of competitive
last mile cost with DSL and Cable.
Requirements
To Compete With DSL and Cable
In order
to accomplish the goal of effectively competing with DSL and
Cable, the broadband wireless service provider must be able
to deliver a broadband access product that allows multiple
choices for bandwidth usage with flexible pricing plans. Fixed
rate pricing as well as Burstable rate pricing must be a part
of the billing package in order to efficiently manage and
sell bandwidth profitability. The CPE (Modem) must be easily
deployable and reliable in order to reduce truck roll costs
and future handling. Installations need to be simple and quick.
Service
Providers need to be familiar with new age applications requiring
broadband such as video conferencing, game playing, medical,
government and other commercial and consumer products to come.
Unisyn is constantly researching new age bandwidth intensive
products for service providers to consider for re-sell to
their customers and subscribers.
